Regional Information: Coachella Valley is a large valley landform in Southern California. Populated by nearly one million people, the valley is part of the 14th largest metropolitan area in the United States, the Inland Empire, and includes the famed tourist destination, Palm Springs. Geographically it is the agricultural and recreational desert valley in Southern California, United States (U.S.), east of Riverside and San Bernardino; about 3 hours NE of San Diego and 2 hours E of Los Angeles.
Desert Hot Springs (population: 23,000): This is a Hispanic community that includes the poor, gang members, and men and women that have recently been released from prison. There are many small struggling churches in this community.
Palm Springs, Cathedral City (combined population: 100,000): this community includes the upper middle class. 33% o fthis community lives in a homosexual lifestyle.
Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage (combined population: 55,000): This region is made up of the extremely wealthy. It is new resort community where most people are passing through to their vacation homes or resorts. The average age is 65. Here also lies the largest church in the valley.
Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio (combined population: 120,000): This region is made up of those who work throughout the valley. This community is mainly Hispanic and there are many young families.
Coachella, Thermal, Mecca (combined population: 50,000): This region is comprised of farm workers, illegal immigrants, and trailer parks. It is an extremely impoverished area.
